World Hypertension Day - Know your numbers, Control blood pressure, Live longer

“Know your numbers, Control blood pressure, Live longer" is the message of this year's Awareness Campaign, organized by the Cyprus Hypertension Society and the Cyprus Cardiology Society, on the occasion of World Hypertension Day.
The aim of the campaign, which is under the auspices of Cyprus Medical Association and supported by Medochemie, is to inform the public about the risks posed by high blood pressure as well as conveying messages promoting prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
According to the World Health Organization, more than a billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension. In Cyprus, the data show that 1 in every 4 adults is hypertensive, while more than half are not aware of it. Sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, obesity, stress and smoking are some of the factors that cause high blood pressure.
Hypertension, also known as the "silent disease", which is often asymptomatic, is considered one of the leading causes of premature morbidity and mortality, as it is a risk factor for developing heart disease (angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure), vascular disease, stroke and eye and kidney damage. Regular blood pressure monitoring and proper guidance by doctors are considered very important to ensure the prevention and proper treatment of hypertension.
The Hypertension Awareness Campaign is supported by a comprehensive communication plan of actions, which includes TV commercials, scientific articles and newsletters in print and online, targeted social media posts and a brochure to help the public understand the importance of controlling blood pressure.
